Search 1 - Linear Alleyway
Setup: 20 Hard items not cloth placed on the edge of a narrow corridor, or walkway, 10 items on both sides, evenly spaced. Approx. size 3m wide by 6 metres long. Tables on their side can be used to create a corridor.
Hides: 2 Hides in the items, Both hides remain in the search area throughout the search.
On Lead. Handlers must perform this search on a Lead not more than 3 metres long.
Movement: Handlers must continue moving. And they can repeat the search once they get to the end.
After finding the first hide, they may exit the search area and re-enter where ever they like. (the clock will stop on first find and start again once the Dog is tasked to search).
Description:There will be restricted movement for both Handler and Dog, meaning the team needs to plan their entry and exit carefully. Limited room means that the handler will need to read subtle changes in their Dog’s behaviour. The Handler should consider airflow, direction, and how their position can influence odour movement in such a tight space for their plan.
Search 2 – Case Chaos
Setup: 20 bags, cases and boxes, all in one space, up against each other no gaps between them. Area around to be marked with cones, and a metre gap between search area and cones. Handler is not to enter past the outer perimeter.
Hides: 2 Hides in the items, at least 2 metres from each other.
On or off Lead.
Movement: Handlers can move around the outer perimeter and direct but not go over the line.
After finding the first hide, the item
WILL
be removed. (the clock will stop on first find and start again once the Dog is tasked to search). The Item must be placed back in the same location before the next team enter.
Description:
Dogs will need to be confident to walk over bags and have a strong commitment to odour to work to source.
Search 3 – Vehicle and Garden Zone
One vehicle and approximately 12 assorted garden items such as buckets, plant pots, watering cans, and small garden tools. Items should be placed within a marked square, close together but with small natural gaps where appropriate.
The entire search area is to be marked out with cones, leaving a one-metre gap between the cones around the items and the vehicle. Handlers can enter the area but can not re-enter. Once the vehicle is searched they must then move to the items, and visa versa.
Hides: 2 hides in total. Hides must be at least two metres apart. Both hides remain in the search area throughout the search.
On or off Lead.
Movement: Handlers may move around each area without limitation, but once they leave an area they cant go back.
Description:
This search area must be next to each other (within 2 metres) Handlers cannot move between. Wind must be factored in for a plan to stop the dog either being pulled out of the search or returning to a previously found hide.
